The recent unveiling of HTC One M8 and Samsung Galaxy S5
brings to the debate of the most acclaimed flagship smart phone in the market. With
the two brand new and very stylish Smartphone in the market I bet you would
want to know which phone should you acquire? Both phones are available already.
To separate the two Android smart phones we have to compare spec-by-spec in
order to come up with a genuine and backed verdict.
Design and build
Design-wise you can point out very little
differences. Yes, very little differences, however, this is not to mean that HTC
One M8 and Samsung Galaxy S5 look familiar. The Samsung Galaxy S5 is the slimiest
Smartphone between the two at 8.1mm versus the HTC One M8's 9.4mm. Then again, the
Samsung Galaxy S5 is the shortest phone among the two with 142mm making the HTC
One M8 stand out in terms of height at 146.4mm. S5 weights a feather light 145g
while HTC weights 15 grams more than it does.
Both HTC One M8 and
Samsung Galaxy S5 are certified dust- and waterproof. Both phones come in various
forms of casing with HTC One M8 coming with a metal design to the front of the
handset. They come in different colors. The S5 models are made of plastic in black,
white, gold and blue colors while the HTC One M8 comes in grey, silver or gold
and is available in metal design to the front of the handset.
Display and camera
With the rapid development
in technology and the cutthroat competition between mobile phone manufacturers,
you should expect very little difference when it comes to the size and
resolution of these three Smartphone' screens. In this case, HTC comes with the
small screen of the two at 5in, while Samsung has a slightly larger screen at 5.1in
In terms of
resolution both Smartphones have the same resolution of a full-HD (1920x1080),
however HTC One M8 small screen means that it offers the highest pixel density
at 441ppi. In the meantime, employs a Super AMOLED panel while HTC uses super-sharp
panel with increased size of the previous model. Camera wise the HTC come with UltraPixel
sensor (f2.0 aperture versus S5 that has 16-megapixel sensor.
Processor, graphics and performance
For benchmarking purposes, there is very little that can be
separated on paper when it comes to Processor,
graphics and performance. Let’s face it, both phones sport Adreno 330 graphics,
2GB of memory and they both run Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processors. The
difference comes only with the clock speed of the processor - Samsung pushes
this chip the hardest, at 2.5GHz versus its rival at 2.3GHz.
Storage and connectivity
If you are a big fun
of media files you will definitely find these phones not disappointing since
both come with 16GB of internal storage and microSDXC slot (expandable slot of 128GB)
for your apps, music, video and more -you name it. Then again, the Samsung
Galaxy S5 is also available in a 32 GB model, which will provide more storage
space to you satisfaction if you will find the 16 GB not accommodating in these
aspect. Pleasingly,
HTC as well comes with 65GB of
free Google Drive cloud storage.
Both phones will
always employ the latest connectivity technology. Both HTC One M8 and Samsung
Galaxy S5 have 4G LTE mobile connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0, the very latest in
Wi-Fi technology - 802.11ac - and NFC. 4G LTE and 802.11ac Wi-Fi in common that provides download speeds of 400Mb/s,
which is considerably very fast.
Software
As you would have
thought, both HTC One M8 and Samsung Galaxy S5 employ the latest version of
Google Android: KitKat 4.4.2. Though, Samsung has modified some aspects of Android
for its Galaxy S5. The software has round icons present in the notification bar
and Settings menu as well as a left placed interface. The software comes with
additional three extras that were not in the previous version therefore worth
to mention; Kids Mode, heart-rate monitor and Private Mode, which bring new
experience to your world. On the hand, HTC comes with Sense 6.0 interface and Motion
Launch Gestures, which personalize BlinkFeed to a greater degree as well as
taking you, experience to another level.
Battery life
When it comes to
mobile phone battery life, little has been done to meet expectations in the
past especially for most powerful android phones. For that reason, both phones have
employed special power-saving modes that can significantly perk up the runtime.
Samsung Galaxy S5 comes with Ultra
Power Saving mode, which turns the screen to black and white, and switches off the
unnecessary features while HTC's offers Extreme Power Saving mode that is
better as compared to that of Samsung S5 since it allows 30 hours of runtime
once the battery drops to 10 percent.
Verdict
So between the two
phones which one stands out? Well the brand new HTC One M8 is certainly worth
your consideration, though we
all accept that both HTC and Samsung have brought their A-game, and they both
worth their quoted retail prices.
